Antonio is 5 years old when his family moves to New York. His father works at the United Nations headquarters. Some time later, he remembers an unforgettable adventure which is related in the book.

The adventure begins when Alice, the main character in Alice in Wonderland, one of Antonio’s favourite books, appears. Alicia suggests something magical: a ride on the Central Park carousel on the night of Independence Day with the Statue of Liberty, Christopher Columbus, John Lennon’s ghost… and also Manuel Osorio Manrique de Zúñiga, a boy portrayed in a painting by Goya on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Manuel wants to leave the painting to see what the world is like in the 21st century and, given his similarity with Antonio, Alice asks him to replace Manuel on the canvas!

Antonio also takes a look round the 18th century whilst helping Alice organise the carousel ride. In the end, due to unforeseen circumstances it won’t be necessary for him to replace Manuel that night and he gets to go to this fantastic event.

A novel where fantasy and reality come together.
