The Present from the River

A man sees something floating
down-river. In a basket there is
a child condemned to death by
the king, who had wanted to
prevent a prophecy coming true.
It said that the child would marry
his daughter. The childhood of
the baby rescued from the water
passes tranquilly, but his youth,
far from the family in which he
grew up, will be filled with trials
and adventures. Will he one day
marry the king’s daughter? Will
it come about that he rules? Or
will he be condemned to battle
against fate, like a man struggling
against the current of a great
river?
